GoldMark Farm stands as a testament to the vision and dedication of its founder, T. Paul Bulmahn, who aspired to create an unparalleled training environment for elite equine athletes. Nestled in the gently rolling hills of north-central Florida, GoldMark Farm is a facility and a sanctuary where horses receive world-class care and training.
Creating GoldMark Farm: The Perfect Fusion of Functionality and Aesthetics
Bulmahn’s dream was to build a haven where thoroughbred horses could thrive. The farm’s Spanish-style architecture, with its distinctive red-tile roofs and cupolas, reflects this vision. Each barn, designed to stay cool even during Florida’s hottest days, is a testament to thoughtful engineering and dedication to equine comfort. This meticulous attention to detail extends to every aspect of the farm, ensuring a safe surface and an extensive network of facilities that cater to every need of the horses.
Spanning 1500 acres, GoldMark Farm boasts six barns with a total of 159 stalls, a specialized therapy barn, four enclosed and covered hot walkers, two enclosed and covered round pens, twenty wash racks with hot and cold water, a six-furlong training track, twenty-seven individual paddocks, and ten large pastures. These facilities are complemented by advanced therapeutic devices such as the Cold Saltwater Spa, EquiVibe Vibration plates, and other equine technology. The result is a sophisticated, world-class facility renowned for its superior care and training services.
The GoldMark Environment: An Idyllic Haven for Horses
GoldMark Farm’s location in Ocala, Florida, is not coincidental. The region’s lush, green grass, nourished by the Florida sunshine, and the rich nutrients of the limestone foundation, known as the Ocala Ridge, provide an optimal environment for thoroughbred horses. This geological feature is similar to the limestone formations found in Kentucky horse country, ensuring the water is clear, cool, and abundant with minerals essential for the horses’ health.
The farm’s setting is equally captivating, with oak trees offering shade and a landscape teeming with wildlife. Whooping cranes, wild turkeys, and white-tailed deer are frequent sights, adding to the serene and natural beauty of the farm. This tranquil environment benefits the horses and creates a picturesque and peaceful setting for trainers and visitors alike.
The GoldMark Name: Embodying Excellence and Inspiration
The name “GoldMark” encapsulates the farm’s ethos. “Gold” symbolizes the highest standard of achievement, akin to the Olympic gold medal, while “Mark” honors Bill Samuels, the esteemed CEO Emeritus of Maker’s Mark Distillery and a respected friend who inspired Bulmahn.
Paul Bulmahn’s passion for horses began in his youth, influenced by the draft horses that worked his neighbor’s land and fueled by the tales of racehorses in Walter Farley’s “The Black Stallion” series. This passion was reignited during a visit to the Maker’s Mark distillery, where Bulmahn won a grand prize to attend the 2002 Kentucky Derby. The experience of witnessing War Emblem’s victory cemented his determination to create a farm where thoroughbreds could flourish.
A Legacy of Excellence
GoldMark Farm is more than just a training facility; it is a legacy of dedication, passion, and excellence. From its state-of-the-art facilities to its serene environment, every aspect of GoldMark Farm is designed to provide the highest level of care and training for thoroughbred horses. T. Paul Bulmahn’s vision has come to life in this magnificent sanctuary, setting the gold standard in the equine world.
