The first stakes race on Louisiana Derby Preview Day was the $60,000 Pan Zareta Stakes for older fillies and mares sprinting 6 furlongs on the main track. After 2 horses scratched out, only four went to post with Dubai Majesty sent off as the even money choice, exiting a nose defeat in the Sunshine Millions Filly and Mare Sprint last out.

GoldMark Farm overwhelms the first-time visitor the way Disney World dazzles a child. It is simply jaw-dropping. If you don’t believe me, just ask ToddQuast, general manager and trainer at GoldMark. The furrow my jaw dug in the Safetrack as he showed me the training facility caused him considerable consternation.

Backtalk Gets Final Word in Tight Sanford

Favored Backtalk is undefeated in three starts after motoring home on the outside of a closely grouped field to win the $150,000 Sanford Stakes (gr. II) for 2-year-olds by a neck over Enumerate at Saratoga Race Course July 30. Goldmark Farm’s Florida-bred son of Smarty Jones now has consecutive graded stakes wins for trainer Tom Amoss. Backtalk won the Bashford Manor (gr. III) at Churchill Downs July 3.

Backtalk Wins 108th Bashford Manor

Gold Mark Farm’s Backtalk charged past Flatter Than Me inside the sixteenth pole to win the 108th running of the $110,500 Bashford Manor Stakes (GIII) for 2-year-olds by a length at Churchill Downs on Friday. Ridden by Miguel Mena and trained by Tom Amoss, Backtalk covered the six furlongs on a fast main track in 1:11.08 in defeating seven rivals.
