After a few days of wondering if Backtalk would draw into the Kentucky Derby field, trainer Tom Amoss, a New Orleanian, learned Wednesday morning he’ll be running the colt in the race Saturday after all.

Backtalk Still Looking for a Kentucky Derby spot

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Two was the prominent number as the field was set for the Kentucky Derby. Two horses dropped out minutes before the Wednesday morning entry deadline for Saturday’s 1 1/4-mile race. Sunland Derby winner Endorsement broke his right front ankle after his workout and may have surgery Thursday. Trainer Todd Pletcher opted not to run Interactif.

Double Espresso wins the 2010 Pan Zareta Stakes

The first stakes race on Louisiana Derby Preview Day was the $60,000 Pan Zareta Stakes for older fillies and mares sprinting 6 furlongs on the main track. After 2 horses scratched out, only four went to post with Dubai Majesty sent off as the even money choice, exiting a nose defeat in the Sunshine Millions Filly and Mare Sprint last out.
